We’re Backing African
Climate Talent
Kinjani works with Africa's leading science driven innovators and climate investors.
From start, to scale, to summit.
Kunjani, we’re Kinjani!
We support African climate founders from start to summit.
The Global Problem Shared is a Planet Spared.
We understand that the Climate Crisis is a global problem, and Africa wishes to play its part.
Perhaps you didn’t see it, but that little orange dot represents Africa’s contribution to our global carbon emissions, just 4%.
With the world set to hit a 2°C rise in temperature, things will only get worse in Africa.
It’s not just climate that we’re passionate about solving…
Problems Specific to Africa:
-
The numbers tell the story…
Despite contributing < 4% global emissions, Africa is the driest continent in the world
Water stress affects 700 million people
Food production decrease by 34% since 1961
100 million people required humanitarian support for climate related food emergencies between 2015 and 2019
2°C forecasts that this will only get worse…
-
Africa is growing exponentially. Her population stands at 1.47bn, and is projected to reach 2.5bn by 2050 … representing 25% of the world's population!
The land mass here is also bigger than China, India, US and Europe combined.
-
Technologies getting to Net Zero and beyond are set to scale exponentially, alongside huge market growth.
Yet today, 16% of emissions is receiving 61% of the VC funding globally, and it’s even worse in African venture capital.
-
Ecosystem Challenges: Limited support for climate innovations within Africa’s current venture ecosystem.
Global Competition: Underrepresentation of African initiatives in global climate competitions like the XPRIZE.
Need for Change: Emphasising the importance of developing a supportive ecosystem for climate innovations in Africa.
Carbon revenues to date: The carbon revenues generated in Sub-Saharan Africa over the past decade have majority been from cookstoves, renewables and REDD+ projects.
The solution required here is not (only) about reducing Africa’s footprint, but rather, sequesting carbon.
What if Africa became
the world’s Carbon Sink?
